Scholarships List

Dr. Hikmet Budak, Professor of Agriculture at AWC, has established a scholarship. It aims to recognize and support AWC students who demonstrate exceptional skills and outstanding academic achievement. Leadership skills and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities are also important.

The Jacob Louis Daily Memorial Scholarship was established by the Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association to honor Jacob's legacy.  Jacob passed away in 2009 from injuries sustained from a work-related truck accident.  He had just turned 24, and his family made the decision to donate his organs, knowing it was what he would have wanted.  Jake died a hero as he was able to give the gift of life and save many people by being an organ donor.  

Jesus Andrade was born in San Luis, Mexico, and moved to Yuma with his family at the age of eleven. He attended Rancho Viejo Elementary School, Crane Jr. High, and Yuma High School. Thanks to scholarship donors, he was able to attend Arizona Western College and transfer to the University of Arizona, where he completed a Bachelor's Degree in Crop Production. He said, "I will always be grateful to all the people who helped me achieve my career goals. For this reason, I decided to establish a scholarship to help other students fulfill their goals and dreams."

Former AWC President, Dr. James R. Carruthers (Jim), served as a dynamic and visionary leader in education and as an Arizona State Representative. His passion for education led him to serve in various leadership capacities for AWC.  He was instrumental in the creation of the Higher Education Consortium, which is known as NAU-Yuma. This innovative concept paved the way for Yuma County students to earn their Bachelor's, Master's, and specialized doctoral degrees without leaving home. Soon U of A and ASU followed suit.  Jim’s motivation was excitement for learning. He managed to establish an atmosphere of friendliness, cooperation, and support to ensure that he and those around him always made the right decision for students, staff, and the community. His family has created the Jim Carruthers Memorial Scholarship to continue his legacy for education.

La Cosecha celebrates students who choose to persist in their education despite challenging circumstances.  Through generous donations from the Yuma community, La Cosecha helps AWC graduates continue their education at a four-year college or university.  The goal of La Cosecha is to encourage graduates to earn a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree, with the hope that they will return to our community as professionals. 

This scholarship is for an AWC student transferring to ASU-Yuma as a junior.  The award pays for tuition.

Outreach Partners of Yuma's mission is to provide school essentials, educational scholarships, and tangible support to others facing hardships.

In honor of Pearline Kawelo Pau'ole Madrona, a respected elder in her family and community.  Pearline believed in the strength and power of love to create a better world.  Through demonstration as a wife, mother, and friend, Pearline is remembered for her sincerity, warmth, and steadfast protection and advocacy for children.  This memorial scholarship is for students pursuing an Early Childhood Education and/or Family Studies degree or certificate. 

Rosemary graduated from Glenna Park High School. She was a homemaker and artist, previously an airline stewardess and shoe and clothing store owner.  She enjoyed art, travel, family, and reading.  The Rosemary C. Hawkey Memorial Scholarship is for students pursuing an art or education degree.

Above all, Heriberto Amaya Solano was a family man who sought to share and learn from others at any moment.  The Heriberto Amaya Solano Memorial Scholarship honors his life and memory.  The scholarship will support students in construction trades, culinary arts, or philosophy majors, because these are the fields in which Heriberto worked and found value.
